Dr. Wieland Schwinger, being granted the venia docendi in OCT/2008, is associate professor at the Department of Telecooperation (TK) of JKU since OCT/2010 . Prior to that, he was working as a senior researcher and project manager of strategic research projects at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg.

He studied business informatics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, from 1991 to 1997, computer science at the University of Skövde, Sweden, and business administration at the University of Lund, Sweden, summer term 1997. He was granted a Master of Science from the University of Skövde, Sweden, in 1995 and graduated at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, in 1997. 2001 he received his PhD also from the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

He was involved in several national and international projects amongst them the EU-funded UWA project and WEE-Net project, the EUMEDIS-funded project MEDINA, and the FIT-IT Semantic Systems project ModelCVS. Currently, he is involved in the FWF-funded project TROPIC on model transformations, and the two FIT-IT funded research projects AMOR on model versioning and BeAware on ontology-bases situation-awareness in road traffic management. Apart from that, his current research interests comprise ontology-based systems, context-models, Web engineering and model engineering. This research work has resulted in more than 65 publications.

Furthermore, he has served in several programm committees and is regular reviewer of several international journals.
